Here is a nice pump dating back well over half a century.  The wonderful thing about this pump is that it was made with real materials, no synthetic materials (plastic, vinyl, artificial wood, etc.).  The majority of pumps nowadays are made of plastic.  I like products made of real materials iron, steel, wood, leather, etc., because they age over time and develop "character".   

The handle is made of solid wood and cleaned up real nice with mink oil.



The barrel is all steel and enameled green.  It still has the original protective paper wrap.

Old products tend to get a bad rap.  However, just because it is old doesn't mean it is no good, or, inferior to new.  In fact the opposite is often true i.e., old products are superior to new in some aspects.  In today's disposable society products are rarely made to last a lifetime.  This pump will easily out live me.  The emphasis on many of today's products seems to be superficial, it is the look and low price, not necessarily quality or durability.  Quick example, which I absolutely detest, is imitation wood products.  Artificial wood, synthetic wood, polymers used today for furniture or  "flooring", are fake wood complete with artificial wood grain.  I swear by solid wood furniture and floors.  It ages over time, develops a wonderful character and with occasional TLC will last a lifetime.  Just as we age, so too do products made of real materials, and aging together is what it is all about. As my Grandmother used to say "Take care of it, and it will take care of you".
