Keep it Simple

As mentioned in Workshop I have moved and I am in the long process of getting settled in. Whilst unpacking I came across a poem I had cut out from a Japanese newspaper published in 2008.
The poem deals with civilization and modern conveniences.
A liberal translation is given below.
When I got a bicycle, I gave up walking
When I got a scooter, I gave up pedaling.
When I got a car, I lost touch with the earth.
When I went to the pool, I gave up the ocean.
When I got an air-conditioner, I lost touch with the weather.
For every modern convenience I let in,
For every gadget I let in,
I gave up a piece of me,
Now I earnestly strive to restore myself to the way I used to be.
To me, the message is "keep it simple".
