2018 Year of the Dog

Many Asian countries follow the Chinese zodiac which is based on a 12 year cycle with each year represented by a specific animal; 2018 is the year of the dog.  Thus, to start off 2018, it is only befitting that the post be associated with man's best friend.。

A few vintage Japanese bicycle models named after dogs include the following．

Seraph was manufactured by Mizutani Ringyo, established in 1926.  Over 90 years later the company is still in business, currently the Mizutani Bicycle Co., Ltd.  and it even has a modern-day  Seraph.。

The name "Seraph" refers to the name given to the Mizutani family's pet, a large German Sheperd which became a trademark appearing on many parts as shown below.。

They don't make them like they used to.

The quality and attention to detail is exquisite.

No wonder the Mizutani Bicycle Co. Ltd and Seraph are still around today.

The design, attention to detail and workmanship of these modest machines make them a true work-of-art.  Hats off to Mizutani Bicycle Co., Ltd and Seraph!
