Sprung Leather Bicycle Saddles (Part 6)

In the previous five posts, Sprung Leather Bicycle Saddles (Part 1), (Part 2)(Part 3)(Part 4) and (Part 5) we took a look at various leather saddle styles from the 1950's: (800 series)(750 series), (900 series)(500 series) and (600 series) respectively.

In this installment we shall take a glance at yet another style, albeit a lesser known one. 

Depending on the manufacturer the model number varied but this saddle style was commonly referred to as the 1300 series.

Compared to the front suspension in the other models we've seen so far (800 series), (750 series), (900 series) and (500 series) , less suspension in the front, only single base springs (wires) which is even less than the (600 series).

The rear has two springs but different design compared to the (750 series), (900 series)(500 series)and (600 series).

A few of the variations in the 1300 series include the following.

Heavy duty base
Pressed steel plates as opposed to base springs (wires) seen on all other models so far.Img_9332

Double base springs (wires) and double loop in the nose.

Double base springs (wires) and single loop in the nose.

In the next post we will begin to take a look at some vintage tools used to maintain leather sprung saddles.
