Nozawa No. 28 3-Speed Premium Sportster (Part 3)

In the previous post we continued our look at an extremely rare Nozawa No. 28 3-Speed Premium Sportster.  This bicycle was discovered tucked away in the far corner of a storage building where it had been asleep for 65 years.

Sportsters like this one became popular in the late 1950s early 1960s as the bicycle trend in Japan shifted from utility to leisure.

In Nozawa No. 28 3-Speed Premium Sportster (Part 2) we began our comparison of how this bicycle is nearly identical to the specifications listed in the 1959 Nozawa catalog shown in Nozawa No. 28 3-Speed Premium Sportster (Part 1)  The photos were taken just as I found the bicycle, just lightly dusted it off and pumped up the tires.

In this post we shall continue our examination, specifically the sprung leather saddle, chaincase and crank/chainwheel.

#32 model soft leather saddle, in pristine condition, same as listed in the Nozawa 1959 catalog specifications.

Suspension similar to 900 series with two loops in the nose and two spring coils in the rear; however, this model is slim and trim with a longer nose designed for touring.

ノザワ２８番 内装3段 高級スポーツ車 (第２)

前回の投稿では、極めて希少なノザワ 28番 3段内装変速付きの高級スポーツスターについてご紹介を始めました。
ある倉庫の奥深くにひっそりと置かれ、65年もの間眠り続けていたところを発見されたものです。
こうした「スポーツスター」モデルは、日本における自転車が実用重視からレジャーへと移行しつつあった1950年代後半から1960年代初頭にかけて、人気を博しました。

まずは前部から順に、後ろの方へと見ていきましょう。
この自転車の仕様は、『ノザワ２８番 内装3段 高級スポーツ車 (第１)』で紹介した1959年版ノザワ自転車カタログに記載されているものとほぼ同じです。
写真は、この自転車を見つけた当時の状態のまま撮影したもので、軽くほこりを払い、タイヤに空気を補充しただけです。

1950年代から1960年代初頭の自転車によく見られる特徴として、ほぼすべての部品に社名や商標が刻印されています。
まず挙げられるのは、あの有名なノザワ風切りです。
なお、泥除けは白地に赤線が施されており、1959年当時の仕様と合致しています

リム：26×1-3/8 W/O（1959年カタログの仕様に準拠）
タイヤは、1959年の仕様に記載されているようなホワイトウォールではありません。

オールラウンダー・ハンドルバー。
デュアルヘッドランプは後付けです。

ノザワ商標の刻印入りベル。

3速スロットル式シフター。
これは1959年版カタログに掲載されているトリガー式シフターとは異なります。
